13/5 ‘RUNNING AFTER THE GIRO’S STAGE 3’
Departure from Capalbiola along via Origlio, the ancient via Aurelia crossed by the imperial legions, to skirt the Burano lake. We are in the heart of the first WWF Oasis, founded in 1965 which represents a unique ecosystem in the national panorama, a recognized example of the untouched Italy. Then we go up to Ansedonia to discover the city of Cosa, a Roman colony built in 273 BC on a promontory to control the territory just taken from the Etruscans. By bike, we cross the Feniglia, the famous beach of the Argentario, to arrive at Porto Ercole, a charming seaside resort, fortified during the Spanish domination. Caravaggio was shipwrecked on his coasts, fleeing from Malta. Lunch break at Le Viste, observation point on the Isolotto, before reaching the Orbetello lagoon and waiting for the arrival of the Giro. This is the end of the of Stage 3, started in the morning at Vinci, the hometown of Leonardo, the genius of the Renaissance, to whom the world pays tribute in the 500th anniversary of his death. Return to the Capalbiola by shuttle.
14/5 ‘RUNNING AFTER THE GIRO’S STAGE 4’
Departure from the Capalbiola towards Albinia to watch the passage of the cyclists of the Giro, running towards Frascati, in Lazio. We head towards Capalbio, a medieval jewel considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, awarded by Legambiente with 5 sails for its pristine sea. We will enjoy the frescoes attributed to Pinturicchio kept in the churches of the historic center, as well as the contemporary work of the Franco-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle. The Tarot Garden deserves to be visited, as thousands of visitors from all over the world do. It is a park extending over two hectares and populated by gigantic statues inspired by the figures of the major arcana. Sometimes compared to Gaudi’s Parc Guell, the Tarot Garden represents an unforgettable artistic-sensory experience. Return to the Capalbiola.
Both routes, about 40 km long, are of medium-low difficulty.
